Via Salis Operations, a company that will maintain several kilometers of the D4 motorway for nearly 25 years, has expanded its fleet of maintenance vehicles. They now have six Scania P 410 vehicles, which can be equipped with various equipment such as snow plow systems, salt spreaders, spray tanks with nozzles, tipper trucks, or container carriers. This development was announced by Scania. The D4 motorway is financed and constructed by a French concessionaire, Via Salis (Vinci and Meridiam groups), under a public-private partnership (PPP). The project aims to establish 32 kilometers of new motorway section and refurbish and equip with modern tools 16 kilometers of the existing section, between Příbram and Písek. The concession company will maintain the 48 kilometers that will be ready for an additional 24 years and four months.
The government will 'lease' this motorway, thus paying availability fees for it. For this purpose, the Vinci group established the Via Salis Operations company, which has been taking care of the 16-kilometer completed section since the summer of 2021. The new section, over 30 kilometers long, will open to motorists this December. 'Thanks to Swedish technology and the reliability of Scania vehicles, road managers will be able to ensure the new section of the motorway is safe and passable, even during harsh winter periods,' Scania announced. The new center for Via Salis Operations will be housed in the center for motorway maintenance and management (SSÚD), which was built directly next to the D4 motorway near the Lety junction. Here, among other things, there will be a traffic control center, space for patrol and technical vehicles, winter maintenance equipment, a salt warehouse, and a brine production facility. The Scania P 410 vehicles provided to Via Salis Operations include five with a 6×4 axle configuration and one with an 8×4 axle configuration. The vehicles are equipped with a 12.7-liter six-cylinder engine that provides up to 410 horsepower (302 kW) and 2150 Nm of torque at 900–1340 RPM. These vehicles are equipped with the Scania Opticruise 12+2-speed gearbox, enabling seamless operation during heavy tasks. Among the suppliers of parts and equipment are Fornal, MTM Tech, Kobit, Schmidt, Palfinger, and VS Mont brands and companies.
